Registration

All umpires must be a registered player or non player within PlayHQ each season. This is to ensure you are covered by NSW insurance.

Umpires must sign the score sheet at the end of each game.

Umpires who fail to sign on will incur a fine of $5.

Umpires who are not registered will incur a penalty of 4 competition points for the team for which they umpired.

Clearance to Umpire

All umpires must have a clearance for the level of game that they are umpiring. A fine of $10 applies for umpiring without the proper clearance. To obtain a clearance umpires must have a current theory pass and demonstrate that they are capable of umpiring that standard of game. Although not required it is preferable that umpires have completed the Foundation Umpire accreditation (previously level 1). Course information can be found here.

An umpire's clearance may be revoked by the Association's Umpiring Convenors if the umpire does not continue to meet the required standard.

Link to Umpire Team List and Clearance form here (Club convenors are to submit to the Association Umpire Co-ordinator prior to the season commencing).

Division 1, 2, 3 & 4 Pool

Each team in Division 1 through to Division 4 must nominate a sufficient number of suitably qualified umpires to cover games each week.

The Umpires Committee will allocate umpires from this pool.

Rules of Netball

Following the World Cup in South Africa in 2023 new rules were decided and have since been adopted by Netball Australia, Netball NSW and CDNA. We are adopting the below rules as well as implementing the rolling substitutes alternative rather than tactical time outs.

Rolling Substitutes can be made at any time. All substitutes must be made in line with the Centre Circle. The player who is being substituted off the court must tap the hand of the player replacing them without going offside as well as to not interfere with the umpire. Also please note that when making a substitution it does not delay play, for example substituting a C during an attacking C pass.

Details of the changed rules may be found at the World Netball website. This website has a link to the complete rules. There is also an app available for phones/tablets.

Code of Behaviour

All umpires officiating in an affiliated competition are bound by the Netball NSW Code of Behaviour Policy and the Umpire Code of Behaviour. Link can be found here.
